Operation CeaseFire

Operation CeaseFire Begins in Camden

According to the 2006 New Jersey Uniform Crime Report, a violent crime takes place every 17 minutes in New Jersey.  To address the increasing rates of violence, Operation CeaseFire, the campaign to 'Stop the Next Shooting,' is  now in the beginning stages in Camden City.  Part of Govenor Corzine's Anti - Crime Initiative, Operation CeaseFire's goal is to bring communities and law enforcement together to stop gun violence.  Operation CeaseFire initiatives are beginning across New Jersey, in the cities of Camden, Newark/Irvignton, Trenton, Patterson, and Plainfield.

To 'Stop the Next Shooting,' Operation CeaseFire will bring together communities that are disrupted when guns are used to resolve disputes by:

  • Forming a collaboration of criminal justice entities in Camden:
  • Training community outreach workers to visit victims and families of gunviolence and discourage retaliation;
  • Forming partnerships with faith-based organizations and clergy;
  • Enabling communities to mobilize and organize against gun violence;
  • Spreading the message of Operation CeaseFire through advertisements and partnerships.

What can you do to help reduce gun violence and shooting in Camden? Join in Operation CeaseFire events and activities in your neighborhood.

By supporting Operation CeaseFire, you can help to 'stop the next shooting.'
