Pass Comprehensive ATV Legislation

 ___________________________________________________________________________________________

Each year hundreds of ATV’s ride throughout our city’s neighborhoods creating safety concerns and damage. Last year, in response to cries from residents all across the city about the safety of our young people riding ATVs recklessly, the danger of those in close proximity and the destruction to properties, namely our parks, Camden Police Department and DCCB launched a campaign to rid the city of all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes (ATVs). While our efforts were successful (we were able to confiscate over 150 ATVs), we noted that the state statute governing these vehicles was somewhat lax.

In particular, the maximum fine for violators was $200.00 and there was no obligation placed on the sellers of ATVs to ensure that purchasers were of age and that the vehicles were registered and insured.
