Camden Youth Campaign: About Us

The Camden Youth Campaign is working to change the prospects for Kids in Camden...
During the summer of 2011, the Camden District Council Collaborative Board’s Sub-Committee on Youth Committee began to re-evaluate their role in addressing issues that impact youth. We took steps to examine the needs of city youth to better tailor our programming and outreach efforts.
What we found was that the community lacked safe spaces for children to play, athletic programs, access to nutritional foods, and structured academic programming with core curriculum standards that aid kids to excel in schools. We also took a look at our ability to adequately serve diverse populations throughout the city’s various neighborhoods. There is such a great need to serve and only so many resources to go around.
This discussion led to the creation of The Yes We Can! Camden Youth Campaign for Safe Spaces & Healthy Living. The initiative’s mission focuses on the physical and emotional health of Camden’s next generation through raising funds and creating opportunities for programming.
The campaign was created by the Camden District Council Collaborative Board, a quality of life and crime prevention organization in partnership with various affiliates such as Rutgers University of Camden, The Work Group, Rutgers Center for the Arts, Catholic Partnership Schools, and Urban Promise. We are working on a blueprint to address the unique needs of our youth.
Working together, we will change the prospects for kids in Camden.
